Understandably, a foodstuff that coeliacs obsess about ... personally I don't think it's the end of the world not being able to eat bread (unless you're out and about). I often eat rice cakes with cheese and a bowl of soup for lunch or with boiled eggs for breakfast. I like an apple instead of crackers with cheese and rice cakes with peanut butter, jam or marmite also make a nice snack. For a packed lunch, I've invested in some clip to lock boxes and fill them with a big salad or something with rice. Luckily I've always loved rice!
I've pretty much given up trying to make my own gluten-free bread. I used to have a bread-maker and tried all kinds of recipes and mixes. They nearly all tasted like cake - too heavy and sweet for a bacon sarnie!

The only mix that was different was this one by Roley's made from teff - a naturally gluten-free grain. I used this with Doves Farm yeast and made gorgeous bread with seeds, currants & spices or sundried tomatoes & olives ... all kinds of varieties. Only problem is ... then I ate it all! Really delicious.
Warburtons have re-branded their gluten-free range to Newburn Bakehouse. It's still on the 'normal' bread shelves in my supermarket though and I think that's a big mistake personally as most coeliacs don't shop in those aisles. They make good gluten-free bread and cakes. The brown bread makes great toast and stays together for sandwiches straight out of the pack. You can sometimes find it on offer at £2 a pack - you can't make it at home for that.
I should mention Genius breads too ... at first I thought the brown bread was amazing ... but then I tried Warburtons and found the Genius bread was actually dry and a bit tasteless in comparison. However, I've just bought a new (to me)600g seeded loaf of theirs and it was gorgeous! Made the most delicious ham salad sandwich. Stayed together while I ate the whole sandwich ... and large slices too. A very good deal for £2.99. I see this bread won New Product of the Year in 2012.
YES YOU CAN is what's in my fridge most at the moment (I don't each much bread so I keep it in the fridge). I like the brown bread and rolls and it's reasonably priced in Tesco at £2. Apart from anything else, I love the Obama-style positive branding!
